James "Jim" Edward Scarbrough, 83, of Heavener, Oklahoma was born March 14, 1934 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Oscar and Eunice (Young) Scarbrough and passed away June 24, 2017 in Heavener, Oklahoma.

Carly and Daisy Woodring of Bixby, Oklahoma
Joel and Will Scarbrough of Houston, Texas
Lane, Gracie, and Norah Scarbrough of Alva, Oklahoma

One brother-in-law:
Dean Loshbaugh and wife Elizabeth of Tulsa, Oklahoma

Two nieces:
Lugenia Counce, husband Ben, and family of Caruthersville, Missouri
Linda Goeller, husband Mark, and family of Seminole, Oklahoma

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Norma Smith and Billie Loshbaugh. Jim graduated from Central High School in Oklahoma City in 1951. He rodeoed, hauled hay, and obtained an Associates degree from Eastern Oklahoma State College in Wilburton, OK, before serving in the US Navy aboard the aircraft carrier, the USS Wasp. He graduated from Oklahoma State University with a Bachelors degree in Animal Husbandry and then with a Masters degree in Agricultural Journalism in 1960. Jim worked for the OSU Information Services, American Quarter Horse Journal in Amarillo, Texas, the Walter Merricks 14 Ranch in Sayre, Oklahoma, and Tucky Farms in Carrollton, Kentucky, before moving to Heavener. In 1978, he moved his family to the Heavener area, where he raised cattle, horses, and was an active member of First Baptist Church. He was inducted into the Oklahoma Quarter Horse Association Hall of Fame in 2012.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 30, 2017 at the First Baptist Church in Heavener, Oklahoma with Brother Sam Dyer officiating. Burial will follow in Heavener Memorial Park under the direction of Dowden-Roberts Funeral Home of Heavener, Oklahoma.

Pallbearers will be: sons, Carl Scarbrough and Dean Scarbrough; son-in-law, Rob Woodring; and grandsons, Joel, Will, and Lane Scarbrough.

Contributions may be made to Boys Ranch Town, a campus of the Oklahoma Baptist Homes for Children, at 5100 E. 33rd Street, Edmond, OK 73013.

Viewing will be from noon until 8:30 p.m., Wednesday; 8:30 a.m. until 8:30 p.m., Thursday; and 8:30 a.m. until 10:00 a.m., Friday. The family will visit with friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home.
