Frankie Simpkins of Poteau, Oklahoma, was born December 11, 1936 in Stapp, Oklahoma to Albert and Christine (Dorsey) Vinson and passed away December 20, 2016 in Poteau, Oklahoma at the age of 80.

She is survived by:

One daughter:
Athena (Tina) Johnson of Poteau, Oklahoma

One son:
Phillip Michael Simpkins of Poteau, Oklahoma

One sister:
Lucretia Frost and husband Donald of Heavener, Oklahoma

One brother:
Cliff Vinson and wife Linda of Heavener, Oklahoma

Three grandchildren:
Amy Waddle of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
Tara Johnson of Yukon, Oklahoma
Chad Johnson of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

Five great grandchildren:
Alexis, Christin, Grace, Dani and Ramsey

Several nieces, nephews, other family members and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother Jack Vinson. She was a 1954 graduate of Heavener High School and attended Eastern Oklahoma State College in Wilburton, Oklahoma where she received her Associates Degree, Southeastern State University in Durant, Oklahoma where she received her Bachelors Degree and then she received her Masters at Northeastern Oklahoma State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. She was a principal at Hartford, Arkansas Public School and retired from Pansy Kidd Jr. High in Poteau, Oklahoma after 32 years in public education. She was a member of Oklahoma Retired Teachers Association and of the Baptist Faith.


Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 23, 2016 at First Baptist Church with Brother Byron Vinson officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park under the direction of Dowden-Roberts Funeral Home of Heavener, Oklahoma.


Pallbearers will be: Cody Vinson, Cody Smith, Chad Johnson, Brandon Gregory, Ralph Perdue Jr., Andy Perdue and Joseph Kelly

Viewing will be from noon until 8:30 p.m., Thursday with the family visiting with friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
