Edgar L. "Sokie" Scantling, Jr. of Heavener, Oklahoma was born September 20, 1933 in Heavener, Oklahoma to Edgar L., Sr. and Corine (Turner) Scantling and passed away September 24, 2017 in Fort Smith, Arkansas at the age of 84.

Steven Scantling, Sr. and wife Melinda of Poteau, Oklahoma

Two sisters:
Norma Pitchford and husband L.K. of Poteau, Oklahoma
Reba Chronister and husband Isom of Tulsa, Oklahoma

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Fern Turner and Velma Benefield; and three brothers, Leonard, Glen, and Douglas Scantling. Edgar was a Medical Lab Technician for the United States Air Force. He was a member of the Heavener First Baptist Church and the Heavener Masonic Lodge #154. Edgar was a veteran of the United States Air Force where he served during the Vietnam War, he was deployed from 1966-1967. He loved life to the fullest. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend.

Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at the Heavener First Baptist Church with Brother Jerry Williams and Brother Sam Dyer officiating. Burial will follow in Heavener Memorial Park under the direction of Dowden-Roberts Funeral Home of Heavener, Oklahoma with full Masonic Rights and full United States Air Force Rights.

Pallbearers will be: Steven Scantling, Jr., Michael Scantling, Seth Scantling, Tyler Stacy, Spenser Lewis, and Kacy Lewis.

Viewing will be from 3:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m., Monday and 8:30 a.m. until 8:30 p.m., Tuesday.

The family will be visiting with friends on Tuesday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
