Carna Ard "Butch" Woolbright

Carna A. “Butch” Woolbright was born on October 9, 1942 at Summerfield, Oklahoma to Carl and Verna (Evans) Woolbright and passed from this life in Heavener, Oklahoma on August 25, 2026 at the age of 83.

Carna was an avid deer hunter and enjoyed many years hunting around the Summerfield area. He learned much of his hunting skills from his Uncle Waford Evans. There were many stories about the deer hunts they had at Waford’s cabin.

He was also an avid gardener. Carna enjoyed making a garden every year until he was no longer able. He would work very hard at it, but would never admit it. Carna would always say “I don’t work that hard”. He enjoyed sharing his bounty with family and friends of the community. Every year there would be people from all over coming by stopping or slowing down to look at his garden because they knew it would be beautiful.

Carna’s work history was mostly in law enforcement. He worked for the City of Heavener and Wister as a Police Officer. He also worked at the Ouachita Correctional Center which is now called Jim E. Hamilton Correctional Center as a Correctional Officer Rank Sergeant, where he retired after 20 years. After his retirement from there, he worked 10 years for the City of Poteau Street Commission with Podie Meeks, where he supervised a work crew from the prison. In former years, he worked at road construction helping build the road on Talimena Drive, the new highway into Wister, worked in the coal mine at Howe, and on oil rigs.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Verna Woolbright; his sister, Connie Harjo; his paternal grandparents, Noah and Irene Woolbright; his maternal grandparents, Chris and Amelia Evans.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Charlotte (Rockman) Woolbright of the home; a son, Chris Woolbright and wife Lisa; a daughter, Carla Woolbright and special friend, Charles Walker of Wister, Oklahoma; two grandsons Toby Roath and wife Kaitlin, Colton Woolbright and wife Katy; three granddaughters Jayla Smith and husband Heath, Bailey Woolbright, Sadie Miller and husband Dillon; three great-granddaughters Charlie Roath, Ivy Roath, and Wren Smith; and a great-grandson, Jax Roath. His special friends Sam Walden, Steve Walden, Podie Meeks, Bud Morgan, Bob Free, Leon Ray, Terry Ray, and J.T. Ray. Numerous other relatives and a host of many friends

A celebration of life service to honor Carna’s life will be 2:00 p.m., Sunday, August 30, 2026 at the Wister Faith Community Church in Wister, Oklahoma with Brother Chad Loper and Brother Sam Walden officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction and care of Dowden-Roberts Funeral Home of Heavener, Oklahoma.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations in Carna’s memory to the Gideon International for Bibles.
