Barbara Ruth Ruble, age 90, passed away peacefully at her daughters home in Heavener, Oklahoma on Tuesday, April 20, 2021. She was born on November 23, 1930 in Evanston, Illinois to Melvin and Ruby (Shearer) Bennett.
After graduating from Evanston-Township High School in 1948, Barbara went on to graduate from DePauw University, where she was Treasurer at Delta Zeta sorority, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in French, in 1952. After graduation, she moved to Honolulu, Hawaii and got a job at Schuman Carriage Company. She met Byron Ruble on a blind double date where they coupled based on height. On July 17, 1954 they wed at the Submarine Base Chapel. Being a naval wife, she moved often and having grown up in Illinois and spent summers in Peru, Indiana, shes lived in Hawaii, Wisconsin, Connecticut, South Carolina, Canada, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Massachusetts, and Florida. During those moves they had three daughters and one son. In retirement she traveled extensively, predominantly with her brother Jack Bennett and cousin Susie Monahan. Together they had many adventures and made a lot of cherished memories.
Barbara was a wonderful and loving mother who gave her all to her family. Her laugh and personality lit up a room. She will forever remain in our hearts. We will love and miss her until the end of our days.
Barbara was predeceased by her brother Jack, husband Byron, and granddaughter Elizabeth (Dunn) Martin. She is survived by her son, David Ruble of Dallas, Texas, and daughters Linda Supulski of Carrollton, Texas, Susan Dunn of Heavener, Oklahoma, and Martha Ruble of Laramie, Wyoming, as well as, 7 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 7, 2021 at 11:00am at the Naval Academy Cemetery in Annapolis, Maryland, where she will join her devoted husband, Captain Byron C. Ruble. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Dowden-Roberts Funeral Home of Heavener, Oklahoma.
