Aylene Martindale of Bates, Arkansas was born May 21, 1931 in Weeks, Arkansas to Fred Stafford, Sr. and Lora (Stevens) Stafford and passed away May 12, 2017 in Barling, Arkansas at the age of 85.


She is survived by:

Steven Martindale of Wister, Oklahoma

Freda Hunt of Waldron, Arkansas
Maggie Scott of Nashville, Arkansas
Modene Hall of Pocola, Oklahoma
Sandra Leonard of Jones, Oklahoma


One brother:
Gary Stafford of Bates, Arkansas


Seven grandchildren:
Keely, Angela, David, Dustin, Shanna, Jennifer, and Cindy


Twelve great-grandchildren


Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends


She was preceded in death by her first husband, Bill Martindale; second husband, Royce Moudy; one son, Stanley Martindale; two grandsons, Steven Martindale, Jr. and Matt Martindale; two sisters, Wynona Evans and Glenda Griffin; and three brothers, Bob, Fred, Jr., and Sam Stafford. Aylene married Bill Martindale on September 28, 1947. Though Aylene had only an 8th grade education and had never worked outside of the home; she was able to complete an Associates equivalency and become the Director of Bates Head Start/Home Start Program. To many in Scott County she was known as "Miss Aylene". Aylene was instrumental in gaining support to convert Bates School to a Community Building that is used for multiple purposes. She wrote a grant application that helped fund the conversion from Bates School to Bates Community Building. Aylene was an active member of Bates Baptist Church for much of her life, where she taught Preschool Primary Sunday School for many years. In her later life, she attended Weeks Church and Bates Pentecostal Church.
Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at Cedar Creek Baptist Church in Weeks, Arkansas with Reverend Larry Free officiating. Burial will follow in Weeks Cemetery under the direction of Dowden-Roberts Funeral Home of Heavener, Oklahoma. There will be a dinner at noon at the Weeks Community Building.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Weeks Community Building or Weeks Cemetery.


Viewing will be from noon until 8:30 p.m., Sunday and 8:00 a.m. until 8:30 p.m., Monday.
